Vol. 1 #104 -- [Voice]

Ugh, I never know how to start one of these things.

Is um. Is anyone familiar at all with a robot by the name of Robo-ky? I fixed him up recently and well, I'm not exactly a robot expert, but I think I did okay. If anyone who is more knowledgeable could take a look at him just to be safe though, I'd appreciate it. [...] As a warning, he can be a little hard to deal with so keep that in mind.

...

Actually, while I got this up. Have any of you guys ever noticed how obsolete the journal system is? It looks technologically advanced sure, but as far as a socialized network goes, there were far better ones back where I'm from. What are you supposed to do if someone is harassing you with dozens of filtered messages? Go over to them and beat them to a pulp? Put a paperweight on the journal and hope they go away? There's no way to block communications with a single person.

....and there isn't a precautionary measure put forth for this kind of thing is there? Is everything in this village ran by ear?

I doubt there is. Sometimes it feels like I'm the only one who bothers to think about these kinds of things.

Others might think about them, but maybe you're the only one asking the question out loud.

But if we can filter to people and filter away from people, I don't see why one couldn't block someone outright.

That's possible. And some people don't come from a world that's as technologically advanced as mine so they may not be aware...

That's what I'm saying. It doesn't make sense. If only... there was a way to filter your entire journal from a person completely. If I could figure out how to do that then maybe...

Yeah? Mind if I ask what world you're from?

I guess until you figure something out, you could filter all your entries from that person, but that'd be a bit of a hassle setting up a filter each time.

Well I'm not sure what the "norm" is here, but I think it's pretty standard? There's cars, airplanes, jets. We landed on the moon, things like that.

Yeah, that will stop them from replying to my entries. But if they were the ones making entry after entry filtered towards me, it would be enough to clog up the journal page and make browsing through public entries less effective. [...] Or maybe I'm reading too much into this. It doesn't seem to be a problem either way.

By any chance are you from Earth? Or some such version of it?

Is it that much of a problem right now or are we discussing hypothetical situations?

[Written]

[identity profile] whydidisaverick.livejournal.com 2011-07-15 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I am actually. But as far as I can tell, my particular version of it has been unique so far.

Strictly hypothetical. Socially it seems like an easy system to abuse.

I've run into that too. Want to compare notes on our world?

Email or texting this definitely is not. But I suppose the Malnosso didn't have out complete comfort and security in mind with this system.

Oh, sure. It would probably be informative.

It's a miracle they gave us a way to communicate at all. But at the same time it's better to give your captives something you can monitor, instead of letting them find a way to do it on their own.

2011 where I come from, I was born in the states. Davenport, Massachusetts.

Big Brother is watching and all that. Though I wonder if alternate forms of communication are possible.

You're a little ahead of me. It was still 2010 where I'm from. I was born in Dayton, Ohio.

Probably wouldn't be that hard. Just a mail system would probably work. We already have a Welcome Center, training facilities, restaurants. So... why not?

So here's the big kicker I'm finding; collapse of the American government back in the 1960s, yes or no?

You'd have to find people to deliver and there's a thing of time, but it would be safer than writing everything over the journals. Or even instead of deliveries, a central pick up point and maybe a private message over the journal if someone has mail waiting for them.

[Written]

[identity profile] whydidisaverick.livejournal.com 2011-07-16 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Collapse? You mean, an economical collapse? [Wow, he can't evenimagine how much that changed history.] Uh, no. There wasn't. But what happened? What caused it in your world?

I'm thinking a pick up and drop system would work. Since delivering the mail itself might get tedious. I think it's something that's at least worth looking into.

Right, different Earths then. [She figured as much, but it's still always a little disappointing.] The US was hosting a worldwide peace meeting and a gas line exploded and killed the US president and vice-president. Hundreds others were killed and injured too.

Maybe something could be arranged with the Welcome Center, set up a pick up and drop system there?

[identity profile] whydidisaverick.livejournal.com 2011-07-16 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
That's... awful. I'm sorry. What became of the US after that? It just... slowly declined?

Probably... [Maaaan. He didn't. Think HE would have to do it. But he might as well try to look into it.] I might try to talk to Rydia about it.

People freaked out, made worse when some groups began taking credit for the accident. The US went into a state of martial law, worsened when people began fighting back. Gangs, organized crime groups, vigilantes. Basically the US went to war with itself. It's the basic present story today. Military presence has lightened up in some areas, clamped down in others. The world I grew up in.

I can lend a hand too, I'd been interested in seeing something come of it. I'm Ginia, by the way.

It's... amazing how just one different event can change two worlds into something completely different.

Really? For a second, I thought I was the only one who cared. My name's Bruce. Pleasure to meet you.

Sounds about right. Too bad nothing positive like world peace or a utopia ever comes from it though.

I was thinking the samething too actually. Might as well try to be as useful as I can before a random "Shift" sends me back. [Or whatever dumb reason the Malnosso say is responsible for that.]

I believe the thing that makes my world unique is the occurance of genetic mutations. Not exactly in the normal sense, but advanced cases that often times leads to obtaining powers of some kind. [...] Super heroes in lamens terms.

It's been about two months and a day if I've been keeping track correctly. How long since you arrived?

Wow, that's interesting. All naturally? Not linked to some chemical spill or something?

[There's a small pause as she tallies up the days.] Ten days now.

[Written]

[identity profile] whydidisaverick.livejournal.com 2011-07-16 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Well SOME are natural. The ones who get their powers naturally are called mutants. Others get their powers from some kind of stimuli. Like chemicals, radiation, things like that. They're called mutates.

Ahh, so you're still fairly new. Not that I'm exactly a veteran or anything. Not compared to some of the people here.

Wow. Like I said, that's really interesting. I can imagine there'd be some uproar over that. The abilities and the presence of mutants.

New Feather and all. I guess I lose my status once the next cycle starts up, right?

[Written]

[identity profile] whydidisaverick.livejournal.com 2011-07-16 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, a major uproar. I think that people fear mutants are actually a new step in evolution.. It makes them feel uneasy. And probably terrified of what they're capable of.

Heh. I think that's generally the rule, yeah.
